Guide
Mario should leverage his superior weight and horizontal recovery to outlast Olimar's vertical game. Focus on controlling the center of the stage to force Olimar into risky, low-damage approaches. Use your strong forward air and up air to punish his predictable recovery and neutral game.
- Use forward air as your primary punish for Olimar's slow recovery and whiffed attacks, as it has excellent range and knockback.
- Keep your spacing tight to prevent Olimar from using his long-range projectile, the Luma, to pressure you from a distance.
- Anticipate Olimar's up B (Luma) and punish it with a well-timed forward smash or dash attack, as it leaves him vulnerable during the animation.
- Utilize your strong horizontal recovery to chase down Olimar when he attempts to escape with his vertical Luma recovery, forcing him to land in a vulnerable state.
- Play patiently in neutral, using your shield to absorb Olimar's low-damage attacks and wait for an opening to punish with a high-damage move like your up air.
- Choose stages with limited off-stage options to restrict Olimar's recovery paths and make his Luma recovery less effective.
